The wizened and disgraced former Premier of Victoria John Cain - dubbed Yoda in looks but not in wisdom by an OC news contributor - nearly bankrupted the State of Victoria while asleep at the wheel of the Government. The multi-millionaire superannuant is in the news today saying the political process from which he made his fortune has turned all shonky. Yawn.
YODA TELLS LIES
Scandals rocked his government, as loans to crooks from state owned finance companies went repeatedly bad. A stench of corruption even extended to protracted rumours that the former Premier had exceedingly close ties to Tattersalls. Nothing was ever proven but he left government after three election wins with Victoria practically in economic ruins.
None of that stops his incredible humbuggery in slagging off all those who succeeded him as corrupt and unethical which are "policy free zones". When a lefty says this they mean non-leftist policies of state control and picking winners, policies which not only nearly bankrupted Victoria but created a political mandate for precisely the opposite policies. Cain proved himself wrong and is still whining about it.
His ethics were remarkably flexible of course when it came to his own interests. He quickly sacked the Governor of Victoria when he grew paranoid that he was thinking of sacking Cain over some financial scandal.
Despite a record of failure probably unmatched in Victorian history - even including the first John Cain - today we see The Aged, a publication that cheered him on as he bankrupted the joint, celebrating his astounding chutzpah:
Mr Cain, who as Victorian Labor premier from 1982 to 1990 was respected by all sides of politics for his integrity and commitment to high standards in public office, said the major parties, including his own, had to accept responsibility for the decline in ethics in politics.
Say what?
THE GUILTY PARTY
That's the same John Cain who led the government later slammed as the "Guilty Party" by his opponents and unceremoniously turfed from office by an overwhelming majority sick of the government he'd left them.
Many thought the Labor Party in Victoria would never recover from the mess he'd left it in. Indeed the Victorian branch was nearly put in receivership due to financial mismanagement.
The OC has written some enthusiatic stuff about people we love and we make no apologies for that. Our masthead makes our commitment to support freedom fighters without fear or favour.
The Aged of course is a complete fraud, feigning impartiality. The above assertion - unsupported by any evidence - is just the latest in the bravado of bias (note new collective noun) that spews out of the Spencer Street Soviet.
Back to the Grand Prix now, the kind of event John Cain would never have brought the state.
Game on.
