The Australian's patriot John Lyons has run up and lobbed a hand-grenade into the Prime Minister's Office by stringing together a series of unfortunate anecdotes about how it's going in there.
Of themselves they are nothing to worry about.
Although the story about Tony Burke will no doubt have him worried because it was incorrectly made to look like it was coming from him. Which it didn't.
The central assertion is that it's chaos in the PMO. The story generally is very reminiscent of the yarns about the early days of the Clinton White House. And they seemed to be able to pull it together to win re-election. Perhaps someone should give Dick Morris a call.
LABOR'S TOP DRAFT PICKS
There is some good news on the horizon though for Labor. Two patriots arrive in the next ten days, who are clearly among the best and brightest of backroom operators of their generation. Senators to be David Feeney and Mark Arbib. Both are very accomplished at getting things done - often by proxy - and in the opinion of many will be the Robert Ray and Graham Richardson of Labor's next two decades. Both are highly likely to be ministers in coming years.
The prospect of David Feeney being our nation's Minister for Defence is possibly the most heartening idea for patriots that has ever been conceived. No Jihadist would be safe.
Both have difficulties in their own groups in the Victorian Right and NSW Right, and it will be the first order of business to start to stabilise matters in their own backyards before planning on colonising other neighbourhoods.
If they work collaboratively, they will be a tremendous force for good, providing campaign smarts, smooth negotiating skills and a confidence that is so strong it could cut through rock.
They arrive just in time for this new government, which is still in a long honeymoon with the public but faces many serious external and internal challenges with which they appear to be struggling.
Game on.
