CLUELESS HELEN CHARDONNAY: Senior State Liberal Opposed To Pro Development Policies That Will Ease Melbourne's Rental Price Crisis

Baillieu faction member Liberal Helen Shardey is the MLA for Caulfield, although if you take the most recent electorate newsletter too literally you might think she'd moved seats down to Ferntree Gully.

And while she might like sitting on David Davis' lap on occasion (purely in friendship) she has no plans to sit on Ferntree Gully MLA Nick Wakeling's seat any time soon.

What was even more disturbing in that electorate wide newsletter was Shardey's attack on proposed reforms which will cut the red tape associated with getting permission to build much needed housing.

Her newsletter (pictured above) asserts that a current government discussion paper could lead to "gross over-development of low density suburbs, such as Caulfield".

WHAT RENTAL CRISIS? SHARDEY'S INVESTMENTS ARE DOING VERY NICELY

It is that exactly that anti-development rhetoric in the Labor party and the Greens party that has cause the housing shortage which is causing great distress to many in Melbourne. Labor for the most part has been able to beat into submission those who seek to hold back Melbourne's growth.

Very sad to see anti-development dogma in a Liberal MP's newsletter.

It's especially sad because that major transport hub of Caulfield with the University and so on would be a splendid place for much higher density development to help ease the squeeze on Melbourne renters. You want to increase the price where the demand is rising? Increase supply. Make it easier and faster to get permission in a process with more certainty.

Hopefully she can buy herself a clue, figure out which seat she's paid to represent and work out that her public duties extend beyond pandering to local NIMBYs.

Game on.
