The soap operatic life of wandering Liberal minstrel Tony Barry has entered a new and intriguing phase, conservative insiders have told the OC.
The Kroger faction loyalist who has recently taken a deep pay-cut to work for Michael Ronaldson in Canberra is believed to be still looking around for more remunerative opportunities.
The ever ambitious bloke who has worked for Chrissy Pyne in South Australia, had a tour of duty in Queensland, worked for the Libs in Melbourne and then Crosby Textor is even considering throwing his hat in the ring for the NSW State Director's gig we hear.
Not completely out of the question, Barry supporters say, is that he would emerge as a last-minute substitute should the Victorian Director-presumptive Stuart Eaton run into any unpleasant scandals of an unrecoverable kind.
He's got many hats in the ring.
HEAVYWEIGHT NO MORE?
On top of these tales comes word that Barry has inspired two of his formerly close confidants Julian Sheezel and Jason Aldworth to embark on a Barry style fitness crusade.
Barry took the risk of losing his political mojo a year or so ago when he lost what health experts have quantified as a whopping 40 kilograms (prior to the above portrait shot being taken).
The OC has previously proved beyond scientific doubt that excessive weight loss is connected to a commensurate loss of political power. How many more case studies must we produce before this health madness ends?
Arguably in preparation for the Higgins contest, Liberal party Victorian state director Julian Sheezel has dropped ten kilos in the last two months. The well groomed Aldworth and Barry buddy is also rumoured to have hit the gym and not purely to eye off the athletic nymphs doing aerobics.
Game on.
