Unconfirmed reports - which are currently being investigated by diligent members of the OC investigations unit - allege that candidate for Liberal Senate preselection Mark Powell was involved in a disgraceful racist incident at a national student conference.
We emphasise that this is yet to be verified but we understand that Powell while attending a conference of the Australian National Union of Students had occasion to chant into a microphone "White Power, White Power" during a debate on Aboriginal policy.
He later attempted to explain himself by cheekily insisting that he was actually just chanting his own name when he had done no such thing.
His explanations fell on deaf ears as we are told that NUS minutes clearly reflect that Powell was booted out of the conference after the ugly display.
Powell and other comrades are believed to have then established a Liberal "tent embassy" outside the conference, in a crude attempt to mock the Aboriginal people, in a manner reminiscent of paternalist Age journalist Michael Bachelard.
Game on.
