Over-reaching cricket authorities have banned the "audience wave" or "Mexican wave". They admit the problem isn't the Mexican waving itself but the practice of throwing missiles, frequently engaged in by the drunken militant wing of the Mexican Wave movement.
The ban is being strictly enforced with nearly two hundred people booted out of the MCG yesterday for infringing the new policy.
Cricket fans are not lying down though. One Matthew Newton (not that Matthew Newton) has established a website "savethemexicanwave.com" Patriots are able to sign the petition there calling for a reversal of the wave ban and proper policing to clamp down on the missile throwing.
Newton has rightly condemned the ban as an example of the "nanny state".
Game on.
