The National of Students is doomed to collapse in financial ruin following the locking out of the Labor moderate group Student Unity by forces aligned with the extreme left and a splinter grouping of Socialist Left rats last week.
Wily Liberals intent on delivering control of the organisation to the nuttiest nut bar on the shelf decisively delivered their balance of power support to an extreme leftist candidate for the powerful position of General Secretary known to his friends as "Monobrow" Matthew Chuk.
Chuk is a card-carrying member of the Australian Greens party, known for the extremist policies promoting heroin use, fiscal irresponsibility, banning airconditioning for childcare centres and shutting down selective entry schools like Melbourne High on the grounds they are "elitist."
The radical Greens Party member militant Chuk got up on conservative votes, something he won't be admitting in Fitzroy coffee shops as the newly elected General Secretary of the joke organisation the National Union of Students. The preachy leftist militant will forever wear the tag "Liberal candidate" according to those distressed by his election.
Monobrow is an independent self-styled militant socialist associated with the "Independents" grouping.
DAWN FRASER MOMENT
The moment patriot Liberals laid their eyes on the cockroach from Perth they knew they had to support someone of his calibre. While one proud activist of the Tory persuasion achieved a Dawn Fraser style cult status when attempting to remove the glorious flag of the magnificent retail union the SDA from the roof of the Student Unity bunker, Liberal Student Federation leaders knew they had to make some big decisions for freedom. Amid these late-night hijinks, the Liberals knew they had a job to do, on NUS.
In an era when students can make their own decision to join or not join their own student union, the financial management of their national peak body is a particularly sensitive issue. Even the smallest bad decision to push NUS into insolvency sources close to the matter have told the OC. Having a moderate Gen Sec is seen as crucial to the fortunes of the organisation, basically so that the token "righty" can make all the tough decisions that the lefties don't like doing.
LEFT RIGHT OUT
The Socialist Left group "the National Left Students"- largely split asunder by claims of misogyny among its ruling male clique of wannabe factional clipboard wielders - remained largely committed to getting the Labor moderate candidate Camden Gilchrist elected as General Secretary.
The Liberal student patriots were equally committed to anyone who would bring NUS down and they rightly judged Gilchrist as far too competent and moderate to help with that. So knocking back a generous offer from the Labor moderates and even from the Socialist Left NLS group, they decided to vote for the Monobrow Marxist with the lively expectation he would drive NUS over a cliff.
They preferred this Doomsday Scenario to the prospect of a Labor moderate campaigning for the ALP during a federal election year and generally maintaining order and fiscal rectitude in the union.
UNLUCKY GILCHRIST GOT LUCKY AFTER ALL
Gilchrist is a member of Student Unity and went down fighting. The legend even received some very up close and personal counselling from a Liberal student the night of his defeat. While she didn't deliver him any votes, she delivered so much more according to sources familiar with the matter.
So while Gilchrist had a night to remember, with most of its affiliates in financial trouble, with a leftist freak in charge of the finances, it looks like the National Union of Students will be be little more than a memory very soon.
Game on.
